How do Off-Grid Solar Systems work?

An Off-Grid Solar System is made up of Solar Panels, an Inverter, a Switchboard and a Battery Bank. Some optional extras are Wind Generation for energy creation and a Generator for backup.

When sunlight hits the solar panels, the suns rays are converted into electricity or solar energy. The energy then runs from the solar panels through the inverter which turns the power from Direct Current (DC) into Alternating Current (AC) which you can then use to power all the appliances of your home. The energy created during the sunlight hours is stored in your battery bank to power your appliances during night time hours. If you can connect to the Electricity Grid, you also have the option of exporting excess power to the grid. See On Grid Hybrid Kits.
